El patio de mi casa

Lyrics

El patio de mi casa es particular,
Cuando llueve se moja como los demás.

Agáchate y vuélvete a agachar
Que los agachaditos no saben bailar.

Hache, i, jota, ka, ele, elle, eme, a,
Que si tú no me quieres otra niña me querrá.

Hache, i, jota, ka, ele, elle, eme, a,
Que si tú no me quieres otro niño tendré yo.

Chocolate molinillo,
Corre, corre, que te pillo
Estirar, estirar que el demoño* va a pasar.

*Optional: Change “demoño” to “otro.”

Translation

The courtyard of my house is special,
When it rains, it gets wet as the others do.

Bend down and bend down again
The little ones who bend down don’t know how to dance.

H, I, J, K, L, LL, M, A,
If you don’t love me another girl will love me.

H, I, J, K, L, LL, M, O,
If you don’t love me, another boy I will have.

Chocolate grinder,
Run, run or I’ll catch you,
Stretch, stretch for the devil must pass by. (source)

Loose Tooth Chant

Lyrics

I had a loose tooth,
A wiggly, jiggly loose tooth.
I had a loose tooth,
A-hanging by a thread.

So I pulled my loose tooth,
A wiggly, jiggly loose tooth.
Put it ‘neath my pillow,
And then I went to bed.

Someone stole my loose tooth!
My wiggly, jiggly loose tooth.
Now I have a nickel
And a hole in my head!

The Raindrops Song

Lyrics

Hark! How the little raindrops
Pitter patter down the pane
Pitter patter, pitter patter, pitter patter goes the rain.

(School Boy:)
Oh you tiresome little rain drops,
How I wish you’d go away!
You will keep me in the school room
When I might be out at play!

(Rain Drop:)
Oh you silly little school boy,
Should the raindrops never come,
Where would be the pears and apples
In the garden round your home?

Refrain
Pitter patter, pitter patter, pitter patter goes the rain!
Pitter patter, pitter patter, pitter patter down the pane!

(School Boy:)
Oh I do not like the raindrops
For they spoil the roses red
And the strawberries, they batter
Down upon the muddy bed.

(Rain Drop:)
Oh you grumbling little school boy,
Did the raindrops cease to fall,
There would be no bonny roses
And no strawberries at all!

Refrain
Oh you pretty little raindrops, come at once and come again;
For you bring the thirsty meadows the sweet blessings of the rain.

En un lejano bosque ya canta el cucú.
Oculto en el follaje, el búho contestó

Hidden in the foliage, the owl answered
Cuckoo, he called, cuckoo, he called,

Lyrics

I. (v.1) Mama says no play; This is a work day,
Up with the bright sun, get all the work done.
If you will help me climb up the tall tree,
Shake the papaya down.

(v.2) Sweet sweet papaya, fruit of the island,
When all the work’s done, dance on the white sands,
If you will help me climb up the tall tree
Shake the papaya down.

II. Shake them down, shake them down,
Climb the tall tree, shake them down.
Shake them down, shake them down,
Shake the papaya down!

III. I love papaya, yes I do,
Juicy papaya, yes I do.
If you will help me, I’ll help you,
Shake the papaya down!

Each part (I, II and III) can be sung together as partner songs.

Lyrics

Ron ron ron,
hacen ron ron ron.
Los gatitos al lavarse
y a su modo engalanarse,
Ron ron ron,
hacen ron ron ron.

Ron ron ron,
hacen ron ron ron.
Las patitas remojando
piel y orejas atusando,
Ron ron ron,
hacen ron ron ron.

Ron ron ron,
hacen ron ron ron.
Y se encorvan lentamente
simulando ser un puente,
Ron ron ron,
hacen ron ron ron.

Ron ron ron,
hacen ron ron ron.
Y presentan enfadados
sus bigotes encrespados,
Ron ron ron,
hacen ron ron ron.

Translation

Ron ron ron (no translation, probably emulating purring cat sounds)
They go ron ron ron.
The cats, when they wash themselves
and in their way, they decorate themselves.
Ron ron ron
They go ron ron ron.

Ron ron ron
They go ron ron ron.
The little feet they wet
Skin and ears they tidy themselves
Ron ron ron
They go ron ron ron.

Ron ron ron
They go ron ron ron.
They slowly curve themselves
Pretending to be a bridge,
Ron ron ron
They go ron ron ron.

Ron ron ron
They go ron ron ron.
They look angry
Their whiskers curled,
Ron ron ron
They go ron ron ron.

Lyrics

Qué linda manita que tiene el bebé
Qué linda, qué mona, qué bonita es

Pequeños deditos, rayitos de sol
Que gire, que gire como un girasol

Palmas, palmitas, higos y castañitas
Naranjas y limón para mi niño son.

Translation

What a nice little hand that the baby has.
How cute, how cute, how beautiful she/he is.

Little fingers, little beams of sun
That turn, that turn like a sunflower

Palms, little palms, figs and chestnuts
Oranges and lemon, they are for my baby.

Saco una manita

Lyrics

Saco una manita*,
La hago bailar,
La cierro, la abro
y la vuelvo a guardar.

Saco otra manita,
la hago bailar,
La cierro, la abro
y la vuelvo a guardar.

Saco dos manitas,
las hago bailar,
las cierro, las abro
y las vuelvo a guardar.

*The word “manito” can also be used. In Mexico and Spain, the diminutive of la mano (hand) is la manita. In those countries, the song is sung with la manita instead of la manito. (source)

Translation

I take out a little hand,
I make it dance,
I close it, I open it
and put it away.

I take out the other little hand,
I make it dance,
I close it, I open it
and put it away.

I take out two little hands,
I make them dance,
I close them, I open them
And put them away.

Eternal Father Strong to Save (Navy Hymn)

$
0

Lyrics

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd’st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walkedst on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren’s shield in danger’s hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe’er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.
